Top Tips on Your New Bright Green Spring Lawn Care

Spring is just around the corner and I am sure you are tired of looking out your window at the dirty snow, dirt, late fall leaves, dog waste and mud surrounding your home. You can’t wait to have that beautiful green carpet beckoning you outdoors this summer. Yard Hero can give that lawn you always dreamed of with these simple steps.

1

Spring Cleanup

A great robust lawn begins with a clean smooth level surface that is free of stones and rubble. Yard Hero will apply a layer of natural organic hybrid topsoil which is free of weeds and weed seeds. This topsoil is available by bag or truckload, depending on the scale of your yard.

2

Eco Lawn Seed

Yard Hero will apply Eco-Lawn grass seed that is suitable to the area that will grow and thrive in full-sun areas, combined sun/shade areas, and full shade Eco-Lawn is a blend of five certified fine fescue types of grass that work together to form a slow-growing, drought-tolerant turf.

Developed in the 1990s by Wildflower Farm Eco-Lawn grows in full sun, part shade and even deep shade! Highly drought tolerant, once established, Eco-Lawn has a beautiful deep green grass colour. Eco-Lawn requires less fertilizing and can be mown like a regular lawn or left un-mown for a free-flowing carpet effect.

Overseeding Methods

Yard Hero will apply the grass seed at a rate of 1 lb. of seed roughly to 200 square feet of lawn using either a rotary cyclone grass seeder to give a more even rate or doing it by hand in tight spaces.

4

Power Raking & Rolling

Once the seed has been spread it is important not to bury it with topsoil. Grass seed does not like to be buried though it does like to be in close contact with the topsoil. A spring-toothed fan rake gently makes the seed lightly mix with the topsoil. After the gentle raking, Yard Hero will roll the soil with a lawn roller to press it firmly into the soil for good contact suitable for germination.

5

Watering

The newly seeded area needs to be kept moist but not soaking wet until germination. A gentle sprinkling of the area regularly with water avoiding over-watering or flooding is important.

6

Lawn Seed Germination

Under ideal weather conditions, should take place within a week to ten days and be robust within four weeks.
